Jointly with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation of Germany, the Institute for Strategic Studies and the Institute for Defense Studies organized the second workshop on “Lessons Learned of Women Peacekeepers.” The first workshop welcomed active-duty female peacekeepers of the military and medical deployments whereas the second workshop brought retired peacekeepers as well as representatives from other uniformed and/or law enforcement services, including the Border Troops, Internal Troops, Emergency Service, and the Police. The workshop provided a platform to identify common challenges for women peacekeepers and to discuss viable options to increase opportunities for Mongolian female personnel to participate in the United Nations peacekeeping operations. Clearly, Mongolia needs to have a national action plan to promote the public awareness about the United Nations Security Council Resolution on Women Peace and Security (1325) as well as the participation of women in peacekeeping operations.
